As San Diego locals, my husband Greg and I go to Ensenada a couple of times per year. There are always so many fun things to do in Ensenada. Sometimes, we just go for a day, sometimes for a long weekend. We have stayed at quite a few different hotels down there and love that there are so many nice hotels in Ensenada. You will find one for every preference and budget. Here are some of our favorites:

Coral Marina

On my most recent trip to Ensenada, I stayed at the Coral Marina, a stunning waterfront property with its own Marina. My husband Greg recently also stayed here after a sailboat race from San Diego.

The resort is beautiful and the rooms are super spacious. Currently, all rooms are being renovated to fit modern standards and style. My junior suite had a private sitting area and a large bedroom, but my favorite part was the balcony overlooking the marina. What a view to wake up to!

The resort also has 3 restaurants and is famous for their weekend brunch. If you are staying at the Coral Marina, you are lucky, as they will reserve you a table. If you are not, make sure to make reservations well in advance! Definitely try the Conchas, Mexican sweet bread aka pan dulce, when you are there. Their pastries are famous in Ensenada and people are so obsessed with them, they even order them with dinner.

The resort is a bit outside of the hustling downtown area of Ensenada and that is, in my opinion, not a bad thing. An Uber takes about 10 minutes and costs less than $5, so it is quick and easy to get downtown, yet you can enjoy the peace and quiet at your hotel. I would definitely stay here again and recommend this hotel!

They’ve got a restaurant on-site, El Rey Sol, famous for its French cuisine, but also offering Mexican dishes. Plus, breakfast is included, which is always a nice perk.

The vibe of the place is pretty laid-back, with a design that mixes traditional Mexican with some European flair. It’s not about luxury but more about giving you a genuine, cozy feel. Perfect for travelers who want a straightforward place to stay without the frills but with all the essentials covered. Hotel Villa Fontana

Greg and I stayed at Hotel Villa Fontana a few years ago when my niece and her boyfriend came to visit. We went on a deep-sea fishing adventure and wanted something cheap and in the middle of the city.

If you’re hitting up Ensenada and looking for a cozy spot, Villa Fontana is your go-to. Tucked away in the middle of the city, it’s just a hop away from the buzz – think minutes from the beach and local markets.

The vibe here? It’s all about the vintage motel feel. The rooms are comfy but definitely a bit dated. The design blends right in with Ensenada’s relaxed atmosphere. Ideal for solo wanderers or couples looking for a stress-free stay without breaking the bank, Villa Fontana’s pretty much a sweet deal for exploring the best of the city. Villa Fontana is one of my favorite budget hotels in Ensenada. It’s nothing fancy, but it has character and charm.

Hotel Villa Marina

Check into Hotel Villa Marina for a sweet stay. Right in the heart of the city, this place puts you close to all the action — we’re talking steps from the waterfront and a short stroll to the cultural hub of the city. Las Cañadas

While Las Cañadas is not a hotel, I could not leave it off this list of best places to stay in Ensenada. Las Cañatas is a holiday and adventure park for kids and adults alike. From ziplining to horseback riding, ATV tours, hiking, paddle boarding, a petting zoo, and a water park with one of the largest wave pools in Mexico, this place has something for young and old and everyone in between.

The best part? You can stay there overnight and you have many different options for every budget. My favorite choice of course would be the luxury cabins. They are simply gorgeous. But they also have simpler eco-cabins, tipis and you can camp there with either a tent or RV.

I hope this list of our favorite hotels in Ensenada has helped you find the right place for your next trip down the Baja coast.

Of note: Common to the travel industry, ProTurismo de Ensenada hosted me on this trip and provided transportation, accommodation, meals, and activities at no cost. However, this does not influence my review.
